In 2018, it is expected to handle over 73 million passengers and more than five million tonnes of cargo. Due to its strategic location, HKIA is often considered to be the \u2018Gateway to China\u2019. In order to maintain a reliable and efficient baggage handling system, it is crucial for HKIA to safeguard the health and safety of all employees involved in this process. At the same time, due to the high volumes of both passengers and cargo, HKIA\u2019s baggage system needs to be reliable, which means the airport needs to continually identify areas in which operational efficiencies can be made. The solution removes heavy lifting activities from the baggage loading process in flight make-up environments. It helps operators to load containers (ULDs) and carts productively, and minimises their physical workload \u2013 even over longer working periods. This greatly reduces the risk of strain and injury caused by heavy luggage lifting tasks.<\/p>\n<p>Following a special request made by the airport, Vanderlande also integrated the RFID technology that was already in use into the STACK@EASE units.
