The Circular Value Center\u2019s (CVC) Fast Forward programme explores ways in which circularity can be realised through collaboration in the value chain.<\/p>\n<p>In one of the Fast Forward projects, Vanderlande teamed up with two key suppliers \u2013 Zollner and Sioux Technologies \u2013 to assess the practical steps required to remanufacture parts from a sorter solution. DHL also joined the project to provide the voice of the customer.<\/p>\n<p>To mark the completion of the programme, a \u201cfinal chain event\u201d was held in Eindhoven at the end of January, and as part of the celebrations the project team presented a video about their work together. This project centred around the potential to remanufacture mechatronic assemblies as spare parts. These are difficult to repair on site, and are typically replaced with brand new units.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"col-lg-6 col-md-12\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"media-wrapper right\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"media\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/www.vanderlande.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/CVC_chain-bart-speaking.jpg);\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t<\/section>\r\n\r\n\n\n        <style>\n                                <\/style>\n\n        \n<div id=\"block-k5uknihe7p28ehcxprn9yl59to37p29d46awrsu9gg06\" class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through a series of workshops and factory visits, the project team assessed a range of issues that would need to be resolved to create a workable remanufacturing process. The ultimate goal is to have these assemblies remanufactured to an \u201cas new\u201d condition and reused as spare parts with all the essential warranties that customers require.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe examined elements like business models, product design, how best to deal with return flows, stock management and traceability,\u201d explains Bart. \u201cIt was a worthwhile exercise, because it could save us costs and reduce lead times. Remanufacturing in this case is a much more sustainable solution, because it uses less resources and the carbon footprint will be around 50% or less.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the production of remanufactured parts will come later in the development process, the Fast Forward project has proved to be a valuable exercise that complements Vanderlande\u2019s other efforts to drive circularity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have been training our people on circular design principles and the circular economy,\u201d adds Bart. \u201cIn addition, we have a project called \u2018Circular Supply Chains\u2019 that will provide a way of working for the three logistical flows \u2013 reuse, remanufacture and recycle.
